The New Cold War of the Compassionists

So Russia has become the Left's enemy? It just seemed like yesterday that the Left was quite enchanted with the Soviet Union and ridiculed then President Ronald Reagan for calling the USSR "the Evil Empire". Now they are doing it. What caused such a lapse of loyalty? Oh, yeah. The USSR is now Russia. The Wall has come down. The Iron Curtain has been opened letting the fresh air into what seems to be growing into once again an olive tree of the Orthodox Faith. This disappointing truth of Soviets morphing into Russians must be quite disconcerting. This is all against the narrative of progressive atheism which they thought was quite settled in that real estate by the Bering Sea. But there something unconscionable like a Christian light has dawned. Also does every day of news replete with Russian red-headed female spies not seem to put one in a James Bond movie? Doesn't one expect to find Sean Connery lifting a glass of sherry as he seeks to find evidence of espionage in every real Republican? Searching the face of every sultry adversary for even the slightest twitch that must convict a treasonous Trump (in the Left's nomenclature isn't 'treasonous' becoming a freshed-up version of 'racist'?)? Of course our tax money has been supporting this 'investigation' for how many years now? I wonder that this kind of investigation with no evidence would have tired out even Columbo. But besides this the other surprising thing: the peaceniks of the sixties have, in an ironic twist, morphed into the Barry Goldwater warmongers, those that would sabotage every rapprochement with our cold war adversary. It is as if any Trumpian thaw between our countries excites a revolutionary rage that seems quite out of character for an ideology that is so totally tolerant, diverse, and so complete with compassion, and holding up the two fingered peace sign. Oh wait: hasn't it been the friendly fist that's been raised?
