The Law of Love and the Love of the Law

At St Mary's Men's group, we reflected on the acrostic psalm, Psalm 119. One thing that impresses you about this psalm is how David, the psalmist, expresses love and delight and wonder at the law, the statutes, the commands of God. We generally look at law as a restriction, a duty, a cold chain enclosing our liberty. But here in this psalm the law is seen as a liberty of love, a thing to be esteemed and sought after, a thing to be tasted as one would taste honey in all its sweetness. For the source of this law is Love.
