The abuse of theology

Theology of the body, theology of women, theology of cats? Doesn't the term, 'theology' mean the study of God? Aren't we misusing this term? Aren't we heading to a place where the great word, 'theology', will come simply to mean something more like 'ideology' or 'my ideas about'?

feminism: a strange bedfellow

To adopt the term 'feminists' is a grave mistake. It is as if we would revive the true meaning of hedonism and call ourselves the new hedonists, or the new Fabianists. Why not use a term not associated with such fracturing roots to the family and instead revive the beauty of femininity with a more accurate phrase as "authentic femininity"?

the 'new feminism'

Why the Catholic Church of all people would seek to promote a 'new feminism' when she has as her supreme saint and Mother, the very antithesis of all that feminism stands for, I do not know. Mary stands not as the great feminist but as the epitome of authentic femininity. A great difference! Is this promotion of N.F. not like promoting the 'new hedonism' or the 'new fabianism' or the 'new marxism'?

freedom

How is it that freedom has come to mean only the freedom to accept? Isn't there also in freedom, the freedom to refuse?

fashion

Why we take our cues from the worldly immodest men at Madison Ave is always baffling to me.

Shouldn't it be: Restoring True Femininity?

Shouldn't it be, "Restoring true femininity"? To say, "True Feminism" seems an oxymoron like saying "true Marxism"... for feminism arose out of Marxist class conflict and incorperated gender conflict from it. Much evil has come out of this ideology. I regret your title.

skating bugs and the real astonishing thing

Came upon a professor at the nearby seminary out in the Gordon woods and he was marveling at the skating insect able to stay on the surface of the water. I thought of the even more astonishing thing that a man did this once, twenty centuries or so ago, and even got his friend to do it for a bit.

Over the Still Water

Over the still water: A dozen or so bank swallows weave in such a precise choreography, changing direction en mass, a directed dance like pepper blown off the hand by someone's calculating breath.
